Pipe Creek Christian School expands to the 10th grade
Published March 8, 2007
The vision for Pipe Creek Christian School (PCCS), located at 1990 FM 1283 in Pipe Creek, was realized in November 1999. The school opened its doors Aug. 20, 2001, offering kindergarten through fifth grade classes with eleven students, one teacher, and one administrator. This was the culmination of earnest prayer and arduous work combined with a desire to establish an outstanding school founded on Jesus Christ.
Now in its sixth year, the school currently has 71 students enrolled with twelve faculty members. PCCS will add the tenth grade at the beginning of the 2007-08 school year with the intention of adding one grade level per year. The first graduating class will be the class of 2010. The school has already begun plans to build a multipurpose gymnasium. An outdoor quarter-mile track is currently under construction.
"We are very excited and thankful for the school's growth and accomplishments. PCCS offers a number of activities for the students including Civil Air Patrol, track and cross-country teams, gymnastics, music, art, cheerleading/dance, sign language classes, yearbook club, and basic photography. Our academic curriculum is rigorous and has integrated into it biblical truth. We are not affiliated with any denomination or church, but are supported by several.
"Our teachers are required to have a minimum of a Bachelors Degree from an accredited college or university and must work toward ACSI (Association of Christian Schools International) certification. Teachers attend the ACSI Educators Conference every year to obtain continuing education credits. The school has some of the finest teachers around.
"One of our teachers, Bill McGarity, who teaches biology, theology and algebra, was an engineer who worked for the Sandia National Laboratories, a government center for nuclear energy, and environmental research and development," states Richard Cobler, school administrator.
Cobler himself has two Bachelor of Science engineering degrees from Texas A&M and a Masters Degree from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary and 35 years experience in management. When asked what he hoped the students would leave with, he responded, "We want PCCS students to develop spiritually, socially, physically and be academically prepared to achieve all that God desires them to be."
Shayne Brown, mother of Pre-kindergarten twins, said, "I am very impressed with the school. My two boys attend the pre-k class there. I am very fond of their teacher who has raised five children of her own and home schooled all of them. Her students adore her and she loves them as though they were her own.
"When I drop them off, I know that they are in the best of care. Why am I choosing to keep my kids in PCCS? Teachers spend so much time with our children that they play a crucial part in our children's lives. Most teachers are a big influence and are a role model for our children. When teachers can pray over our children and train them to lead a moral life by biblical teachings, how awesome is that? We can instruct our children at home and church to love the Lord, but when they hear it from their teachers who they look up to and spend seven hours a day with, it solidifies what we as parents are trying to teach.
"They are not lead to confusion by going to school where God is not allowed and where teachers are not allowed to pray for them or talk about God or where they themselves cannot worship freely. I love how everyone is 'family' at PCCS.
"The students are amazing! They are polite, caring, and loving and all the students are so respectful of each other. The older students know that they are examples to the younger ones because they share the campus with them. I found that the students seem to be very focused and seem to really excel. With class sizes being small, each student is given so much attention and there are very few interruptions because the students are expected to be the best they can be.
"Last, but not least, the tuition is very affordable in comparison to other private schools. In fact, it is about one-half the cost of other Christian schools in Boerne and San Antonio. There is also financial aid available to families who need it. No family has ever been turned away for financial reasons. I am proud to have my children set apart of such an awesome school and I am looking forward to their future growth."
Pre-k through tenth grade classes are currently open for enrollment for the 2007-2008 school year. Anyone interested should contact Richard Cobler at 830-510-6131. The school will also be hosting their annual fund-raiser April 28, at Mansfield Park. This year the Christian group Branded Duo will be playing along with some other Christian artists from Bandera. The money raised is used to offset tuition costs.

Pipe Creek Christian School student Mark Zimmerschied
|
Mark Zimmerschied is uncertain who nominated him to be a Student Ambassador, but he is thankful someone did.
Student Ambassador Programs are invitation-only programs that provide international educational opportunities for grade school, middle school, and high school students. Their journeys combine cultural experiences, behind-the-scenes access to fascinating people and places, and outdoor adventures to create life-changing educational experiences.
President Eisenhower started the program believing that ordinary citizens of different nations could solve their differences and find a way to live in peace with each other. This simple thought became the People to People Student Ambassador Program in 1956.
Pipe Creek Christian School eighth grader Zimmerschied was selected as an ambassador representing South Texas following recommendations by teachers, others who know him, and an interview.
As a Student Ambassador, Zimmerschied will travel to England this summer for three weeks under the banner of People to People and will represent the best of our nation.

New High School slated for Pipe Creek
by Stephanie Day BCC Staff
Published July 13, 2006
Pipe Creek Christian School is now approaching an enrollment of 75 students and has expanded to include ninth grade this school year. Sue Wilson has been hired as the 9th grade homeroom teacher and is excited and looking forward to her new class. She says Pipe Creek Christian School is a good choice for parents to make for their children’s education because the small class sizes allows teachers to give individual attention to students. "We offer a Christ-based education. We have field trips, guest speakers and a lot of hands-on projects."
Offered at the high school level next year are English I, Latin I, Biology, Algebra, Government and Economics, Physical Education, Civil Air Patrol, Bible Studies and Technology Applications. Civil Air Patrol Commander Ilene Stephenson worked for a year to bring the Civil Air Patrol curriculum to the school. Bill McGarity will be teaching the class, another new and exciting addition for the Christian school. The Pipe Creek Christian School curriculum parallels the Texas public school curriculum so that students have no problem with obtaining credits for graduation and college entrance.
School begins on Aug. 21. Parents can enroll their children by calling 830-510-6131 or going by the school at 1990 FM 1283 in Pipe Creek.
Administrator Richard Cobbler said that now is the time for enrolling. Student growth has necessitated the growth of the campus. Portable buildings have been brought in to allow the addition of high school. "We expect to add tenth grade next year and continue adding a grade each year. We’ve expanded our staff. As we expand our high school, we will also offer advanced placement courses."
Hours for Pipe Creek Christian School are from 8 a.m. to 3:15 p.m.

The fourth and fifth grade students at Pipe Creek Christian School have been studying some of the great events of American colonial history and the people who made these events.
Under the supervision of their teacher, Maria Lopez, the students made colonial projects, presented a short speech on their historical character, and performed the colonial dance "The Minuet" at Chapel service on Friday, March 3, at the school.

During the study of the symbols of Texas, these enthusiastic Texans in Mrs. Marks kindergarten-first grade class designed their own brands. Perhaps they'll each have a Longhorn heard of their own to brand one day.
The generous and talented students of Bandera High School's agriculture mechanics classes of Fulton Pizzini assisted these students with their "hot off the forge" project. Soon they will brand their own unmistakably unique wooden sigh and "burn" a lasting memory of their days at Pipe Creek Christian School.

The fourth and fifth grade students at Pipe Creek Christian School have been studying middle ages. In the most recent lesson, they completed the study of the crowning of Charlemagne, the emperor of the territory that became known as the Holy Roman Empire. Charlemegne was crowned in Rome on Christmas Day, 800 AD. The students designed their own replicas of Charlemagne's crown, originally made of gold and embellished with precious jewels. Mrs. Maria Lopez is their teacher.
Students are shown standing with their crowns. The back row includes Rebecca Escobar, Tyler Cox, Manuel Zimmerschied, Keith Huckabee, Joseph Howard, Maria Lopez (Teacher), and Michelle Childers. The front row includes Shane Jaworski, Zachariah Robison, Greg Macias, Jamison Landolt, and Colson Dittmeier.

Six-year old Kevin Johnson left Sulphur, La., with his mother and father, sister, niece, uncle, cousin, and grandmother on Thursday morning before Hurricane Rita ripped apart his hometown. Twenty-six hours later, the family of eight arrived in San Antonio and stayed in a one-room efficiency apartment until they were invited to stay at Mt. Zion Christian Mission in Pipe Creek. Because no one is allowed to return to Sulphur for another 30 days, Kevin's parents have enrolled him in Pipe Creek Christian School in the first grade.

Learning can definitively be a fun experience -- just ask Pastor Doug Johnson of Pipe Creek's First Baptist Church, pictured at right.

Pipe Creek Christian School Kindergarten and first graders will remember the day that dads, granddads, pastors, and friends came to experience the shaving of "L" and "L" words onto their willing faces.
Each cooperative guest was lathered up and laughed their way through this labor of love by the students in Darlene Mark's class. It looks like learning to write and sound letters has taken a long leap since many of us attended elementary school.

Pipe Creek Christian School boasts creative art festival
Published Feb. 24, 2005
The halls of Pipe Creek Christian School have been transformed into an art gallery, following the school Art Festival. Each student entered at least one piece, most of which were created under the direction of art teacher Dr. Diane Spears.
First, second, third and honorable mention were awarded for each grade level. In addition, there were awards for best of painting, best of drawing/color, best of drawing/black and white, best of graphic design, best of paper art (creating a picture with scissors, not using a pencil) and best of show. Volunteer jurors were Wayne & Carolyn Shaw and Kay Solomon, selected for their art experience and objective viewpoint (not knowing any of the students).
Students were recognized during the weekly chapel service and proudly wore their beautiful buttonribbon awards throughout the day. Those scoring a superior rating of "Best of..." award have the opportunity to advance to the district Association of Christian Schools International (A.C.S.I.) exhibit which will be held at Vanguard Institute in Boerne.
The community is invited to stop by to view the student artwork throughout the week of Feb. 14-18.

While students enjoyed a holiday, full-time staff members of Pipe Creek Christian School enjoyed being students at the A.C.S.I. South-Central Region Teacher's Convention, held at Moody Gardens in Galveston. Outstanding keynote speakers and seminars provided an exceptional time of professional growth and refreshment.
